The Food Composition Database (BDA): a scientific resource in the service of research

The Food Composition Database for Epidemiological Studies in Italy (BDA) is a project coordinated by the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the European Institute of Oncology. It was developed through collaboration among researchers, epidemiologists, and food-composition experts from Italian universities and research institutes.

It provides information on the nutritional composition of foods consumed in Italy, offering essential support for epidemiological studies that investigate the relationship between diet and health.

Access to the database

Consultation of the data published on bda.ieo.it is free of charge.

To receive the complete electronic format of the database (Excel file), a donation to IEO-MONZINO Foundation ETS is required, which supports the project’s research activities.

  • For users who wish to use our database for personal or research purposes, non-commercial and/or for-profit, a minimum donation of €50 is requested.

  • For all other conditions of use, the donation amount varies according to the intended use of the data. In these cases, you can contact the BDA group for more information: [email protected]

     After completing your donation, please send an email to [email protected] attaching the proof of donation together with the BDA request form duly filled out, dated, and signed. The data will be sent only after receipt of these documents.
